In the Scholars Program, students spread their Access MCA experience over their high school career.

Students can begin taking courses as young as Grade 9 and can continue to take courses through the end of high school. Students completing the full program can choose to enter an MCA university or college as a sophomore or transfer courses to other colleges. Students can begin throughout the year and can align their course participation to fit their other academic commitments.

      

Program Structure

To complete the whole program and qualify to enter an MCA university or college, students must earn a minimum of 24 credits.

Bus 121: Fundamentals of Investing

Fundamental business principles. How to apply research techniques to the business domain. Make effective presentations on business subjects in both spoken and written form. 3 Credits / Optional 1 Credit for Competition)

Bio 160: Ecological and Evolutionary Systems Environmental Science

Examine basic concepts in ecology and evolutionary biology to gain insights into adaptive features. Credits Awarded: 4.

Bio 199: Neuroscience of Resilience

Custom course based on students.
Complete and become certified in the Certified Resilience Trainer (CeRT) program.  Credits Awarded: 4.

Engs 150: Introduction to Engineering

Introduces students to the basic principles of engineering and the various disciplines that constitute the field. (Lab included) Credit awarded: 4 Credits

Phil 195: Topics in Philosophy

Applications of philosophical methods for critical reflection upon it. Introduction to philosophical thinking. Credit awarded: 4 Credits

Psy 100: Intro to Psychology

An introduction to the science of behavior and mental life, ranging from biological foundations to social and cultural influences on behavior. (Lab included) Credit awarded: 3 Credits / Optional 1 Credit for Lab

Eng 315: Science, Technical and Medical Writing

Introduction to principles of environmental relations and processes; survey of environmental literature. Credit awarded: 4 Credits

USH 100 Survey of US History

Survey of American history from the earliest moments to the modern period. Focuses on ideas and ideal that have motivated the American experiment. Credit awarded: 3 Credits

Application Process

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Priority is given on a first registered, space available basis.

1. Create an AccessMCA Account on the Opus Portal

Create and login to the AccessMCA Opus Portal here:

http://opus.accessmca.com

2. Complete Application and Fees

Once logged in, complete the online application form and the application fees.

You will be asked for the following information:

  • Academic records from your current school
  • Personal statement and short answer questions
  • Letter of recommendation

3. Complete Registration and Choose Courses

After receiving your acceptance letter to the program, complete the online registration process and choose the courses you wish to take.

Who can take the Scholars Program?

Students as early as Gr 9 can take the Access MCA Scholars Program. Students completing a minimum of 24 credits automatically qualify for admissions with sophomore status at MCA universities and colleges. Students may also choose to transfer their college credits to other universities and colleges.
